Project Metis is an overarching research project by K Sharp to explore the human aspect of developing the Internet of Things (IoT), Smart Cities, Smart Communities and connected technologies.
It has been broken down into the following main themes:
Overt and Covert Data use
This research is an exploration into the usage of downloadable mobile applications, and the consumer’s perception of mobile data privacy in relation to free and paid-for applications. This research consists of a state of the art literature review, and the statistical and qualitative analysis of primary data collected through an online survey. The survey allowed for a first hand and unbiased view at the level of usage of downloadable applications and the level of privacy one believes they receive from a downloadable application.
Truth Serum
What is it that makes a lie, or exaggerated story, obtain enough exposure to be considered “True” by a non-informed person?
Digital Well-Being Across the Ages
This was an exploration into internet use, digital technology and digital well-being as part of a broader exploration into the value of human perception in the development of the Internet of Things, Smart Cities and Smart Communities concepts. It aims to place a direct focus on the perceptions of the younger generations, who can be referred to as digital natives or millennials, and the older generations who can be considered baby boomers or digital immigrants. The groups’ views are compared and contrasted in order to deduce which group, if any, benefits most from the digital world. The research itself consists of a state-of-the-art review, analysis of previous survey research relevant to digital well-being, and primary research conducted through an online survey.
This piece of work is being presented at the Ergonomics and Human Factors Conference 2017.
